Mozart’s Requiem is a work where raw emotion transforms into serenity, anger meets consolation and fear meets peace. More than two centuries after its composer’s death, the work still has the power to move an audience.
In the early 19th century, in the Cathedral of Évora in Portugal, an unusual arrangement of the Requiem was created for a small ensemble: soloists, choir, organ and an instrumental group. Now this version will be heard in Finland for the very first time.
The intimate ensemble brings this familiar work close enough to touch. Beneath the vaulted ceilings of the German church, the Requiem does not remain a distant monument. Every voice is distinct, every word resonates, and subtle colours emerge – revealing shades in the music that a large orchestra can easily overshadow.
Chamber Choir Utopia joins forces with top‑class musicians to present this unique performance. The soloists are Titta Lampela (soprano), Iris Oja (alto), Charles Barbier (tenor), and Jussi Lehtipuu (bass). At the organ is early-music virtuoso Andrew Lawrence-King. The ensemble consists of bassoonists Otto Virtanen and Jaakko Luoma, cellist Heidi Peltoniemi and double bassist Eero Marttila.
