Utopia has had the honour of performing at the Sastamala Gregoriana Festival many times, but this summer is quite special: Michael Fields, the long-standing artistic director of the festival, is stepping down. He will give his final performance conducting Utopia and the Pirkanmaa Baroque Orchestra, giving you one of the greatest masterpieces of Western music: George Friedrich Handel’s Messiah.
Composed in 1741, the Messiah is one of the most famous and beloved oratorios. The work tells the story of Christ’s life, suffering and triumph, and includes the iconic Hallelujah Chorus.
The soloist line-up of the evening consists of top Finnish early musicians Tuuli Lindeberg (soprano), Teppo Lampela (alto), Jussi Lehtipuu (bass), as well as American born Swiss tenor David Munderloh.
